1. Give us a personal background on yourself? (Where are you from, where do you reside, what’s your preferred medium? Are you a cat or dog person? We want to know!)

Hi everybody! My name is Maria Lara but everyone call me Lara. I’m from Venezuela, and I moved here to Miami on 2015. I consider myself an extrovert but sometimes I can be the contrary (depending on the situation). Also, I think I am a very passionate girl with a lot of dreams to achieve. And definitely I’m a dog person! I own a dog called Peggy that basically, it’s my entire world. Also, because cats give me allergy 🙁 Yep, I know, sad to hear because animals are
amazingly cute.

2. How did you first start your journey towards becoming an artist?

To be honest, I never thought about myself as an artist until I read the question. So, I could say I’ve been an artist my whole life! I just didn’t know how to call myself. Since I was a kid I always had this creativity to pull outfits together. Every girl friend around me always asked for advice when speaking of fashion, and nothing makes me more happy than that!

3. When was the first time you really saw yourself as an artist?

Well, as I answered the question before, I really think that until now. Artists are called artists because they create, inspire and express their feelings through art.
And yes, fashion is a way of self-expression that requires creativity and attitude. Also, it represents our mood and way of living life. So I’ve been creating outfits
since kid!

4. What do you think new artists struggle with the most nowadays?

I think exposure. Even though social media exists, and it is really easy to show our work on it, there’s a lot of creatives nowadays, every day there’s new music, new paintings, new trends, so it can be really hard for us to keep track of everything daily and be on top innovating. There’s a lot of competition but also, there’s a lot of room for everyone. So it’s really up to us and how we work on our favor.

5. How did you learn how to set a price on your art/craft?

Asking among stylists, photographers, filmmakers…
Also, to people in the industry, college, and of course, YouTube!

6. What has been your favorite piece that you’ve created?

It was one of my recent photo-shoots. The model is only sixteen years old, and the way she rock the outfit, was insane. You can see the result on my Instagram: @marialaraf. It’s the girl with the red outfit!

7. Who’s one of your biggest sources of inspiration right now?

@wuzg00d @sofianro

8. If you could pick one of your pieces to represent you as a person, which one would it be and why?

It will be the photoshoot with the short hair girl (you can see it down below) wearing a stripes sweater and pulling her tongue out. I pick this entire look because represents attitude, confident, and a free soul woman that is not afraid of showing herself to the world. She follows no feminine prototype and it’s just living their life as she pleased. That is the ultimate dream: be free.

9. What has been your happiest moment as an artist?

When I styled the first photoshoot I ever worked. It was amazing! I couldn’t believe the result looked so great, and people started to show interest on it. So I decided to keep going!

10. Have you ever made any mistakes in the industry that have taught you a valuable lesson?

Yes, we cannot trust everyone we know in the creative industry. What happen was that I told someone a few ideas I had, and he did not got inspire by, he basically did the exact same thing I told him, and he disappear. He copied the idea, and suddenly he was a ghost.

11. If you were a dessert, what dessert would you be and why?

Definitely a lemon pie. A little bit sweet, and a little bit soury. I’ll leave it to your imagination haha!

12. What kind of music do you like to listen to when you work?

House music, trap and reggaetton. Those three genres are my moods.

13. What’s your least favorite trend at the moment?

Speaking of fashion, the low rise pants are coming back… hmmm not my taste.

14. If you could design a home out of literally any material, what would your house be made out of?

Diamonds hahaha, it would look amazing, isn’t it?

15. If you could leave us with one thought, what would it be?

“I understood everything knowing nothing.
